The Tank That’s in Another Dimension | D&D 5e Build Guide

Original Video:

*This article is an edited version of the script for this video

Race:

The race doesn’t matter too much for this build, I would go something like Hill Dwarf or Goliath to increase our durability a little bit more. I’m going to be assuming a +2/+1 for our ability scores

Ability Scores(point buy):

Str: 9

Dex: 8

Con: 14

Int: 15(+2)

Wis: 9

Cha: 15(+1)

Ability Score Priorities(if rolling):

#1: Int

#2: Cha

#3: Con

Ideal Equipment:

-Plate Armor

-Shield

-Arcane Focus

Levels 1-5: Artificer 1-5

-Spells: Guidance, Fire Bolt, Cure Wounds, Faerie Fire, Longstrider(Especially if you went Hill Dwarf), Aid, Web

-Infusions: Enhanced Defense and Mind Sharpener

-Artificer Specialist: Armorer

—Spells: Mirror Image

—Arcane Armor: Will allow us to use heavy armor without its Strength requirement.

—Armor Model. Guardian: This is our taunt, when we hit an enemy it will have disadvantage to hit anyone but us.

-ASI or Feat: Fey Touched +1 Int. Good first level spells you can get from this are Bless, Command, Silvery Barbs, or Gift of Alacrity

-Extra Attack

Levels 6-12: Sorcerer 1-7

-Sorcerous Origin: Clockwork Soul

—Restore Balance: In a pinch this could remove advantage and decrease our chances of being hit

—Clockwork Spells: Any spells I mention that are Abjuration or Transmutation can be taken here instead.

—Bastion of Law: A decent way to get additional survivability by spending Sorcery Points. It is fairly expensive so you may not want to use it on very long adventuring days.

-Spells: Shield, Absorb Elements, Rime’s Binding Ice, Blink, Hypnotic Pattern, Greater Invisibility, Polymorph

Note: Blink Does still have uses even after we get Greater Invisibility. Against creatures with things like Blindsight or Truesight that can see creatures who are invisible Blink will likely be a better choice. Blink is also good to fall back on once we run out of 4th level or higher spell slots.

-Font of Magic

-Metamagic: Most important is Quickened Spell. This will allow us to attack and cast Blink, Mirror Image, or a control spell like Web or Hypnotic Pattern on the same turn. Extended Spell could be good as well to potentially set up our Blink or Mirror Image before a combat starts.

-ASI or Feat: Resilient: Wis. Getting our Wisdom to +0 and rounding out our defenses.

Level 13: Artificer 6

-Additional Infusion: Repulsion Shield. Good to keep enemies off of you and boosts our AC by 1. You could take this before the sorcerer levels but I just wanted to get to Blink and Greater Invisibility sooner.

Levels 14-20: Warlock 1-7

-Otherworldly Patron: Archfey

—Main thing we’re here for is Misty Escape. Another ability that will make us invisible and help us avoid taking damage.

-Spells: Pick whichever additional spells you’d like. The main reason we’re here is to get spell slots back on a short rest so we can cast our spells and replenish our Sorcery Points more often.

-ASI or Feat: +2 Int or Cha. Just depends on whether you want to focus more on landing the taunt and artificer spells or boost your sorcerer/warlock spells
